BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has advised motorists to avoid roads around the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center during the 2026 IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings from October 12–18. Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploytalay Laksmeesangchan announced that special security and traffic management measures will support the movement of international leaders, senior officials, and meeting participants. She encouraged the public to plan ahead, especially near the convention center and central Bangkok routes, as traffic controls may change for official motorcades.
Motorists should avoid Ratchadaphisek Road between the Rama IV and Asok–Sukhumvit intersections, the areas around Benjakitti Park, Sukhumvit Road near Nana, Asok, and Phrom Phong, and Rama IV Road near Khlong Toei and the convention center. Authorities recommended using public transportation, such as the MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and Sukhumvit stations, as well as the BTS Asok station, to minimize delays.
The spokesperson noted that some areas of Benjakitti Park will have temporary access restrictions. Routes connecting Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports with central Bangkok, including Sukhumvit and Rama IV, may also be subject to special traffic management. The spokesperson advised road users to allow extra travel time and check for the latest road closures and alternative routes before departure. She added that traffic control measures may change based on security needs and conditions during the meetings. (NNT)
