BANGKOK – This year’s Chinese vegetarian festival officially began on 29 September. The festivities in Bangkok’s Chinatown Yaowarat are all on the theme of honoring His Majesty the King in the auspicious year of the Coronation.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Jurin Laksanawisit, officiated at the opening ceremony of Yaowarat’s Vegetarian Festival 2019 to conserve this long observed annual traditional, and to honor His Majesty the King in the auspicious year of his Coronation.

The vegetarian festival at Yaowarat is taking place for 10 days and 10 nights, until 7 October. Some 100 shops are selling ready-to-eat vegetarian food along the road from Odeon circle to Yaowarat road. It is expected this festival will generate no less than 500 million baht in revenue.

Many Thai-Chinese people have come out and shopped for vegetarian ingredients. Many raw ingredients, pre-cooked and ready to eat meals, condiments and desserts are being sold at regular prices. Many shoppers praised the opening of new MRT stations in the area, allowing them to travel faster and more conveniently.
