The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) says it is fully prepared for the Bangkok governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council elections on June 28, with 6,628 polling stations set up across all 50 districts and contingency plans in place to handle expected rainfall and potential flooding.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has confirmed its readiness for the Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC) and Bangkok governor elections on June 28, with emergency response and public facilitation measures in place across all 50 districts.

BMA Deputy Permanent Secretary Thanit Tanbuaklee stated that Permanent Secretary Narong Ruangsri has directed all district offices to prepare for emergencies and ensure voter convenience. Polling will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 6,628 stations citywide. On June 27, district offices inspected election materials before distributing them to polling station committees. The BMA has also developed contingency plans for potential rain and flash flooding on Election Day.

The Department of Drainage and Sewerage and all 50 district offices have been instructed to inspect pumping stations, drainage wells, floodgates, and electrical systems to ensure operational readiness, especially at polling stations identified as at risk. Thanit advised eligible voters to plan their travel and bring rain protection, as the Thai Meteorological Department forecasts rain in 65 percent of Bangkok. Officials have also been instructed to check electrical wiring at polling stations to reduce risks during rainy conditions.

All polling stations must open on time, and neither rain nor localized flooding must prevent voters from exercising their rights. District offices have been instructed to prepare backup plans for all scenarios. The BMA reminded officials to issue ballots carefully, as the number of eligible voters for the BMC and governor elections may differ by area. Voters will receive a green ballot for the governor election and a pink ballot for the BMC election. There will be no advance or out-of-district voting for this election. (NNT)
