The Army insists all activities are conducted inside Thailand’s sovereign borders, rejecting Cambodia’s allegations and reaffirming its long-standing position on the boundary issue.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army has clarified that all current operations are being conducted strictly within Thailand’s sovereign territory, following Cambodia’s submission of a diplomatic note alleging Thai encroachment in four provinces.

Royal Thai Army spokesperson Major General Winthai Suvaree stated that Thailand has not occupied any Cambodian territory. All actions undertaken by Thai authorities involve the organisation and regulation of areas located within Thailand’s territory.

The spokesperson explained that longstanding misunderstandings about the Thai–Cambodian border have resulted in incursions into Thai territory, including force deployments, military positions, and support for civilian structures within Thailand. He stressed that Thailand has repeatedly lodged formal protests through established MOU43 mechanisms over many years to address these issues.

The spokesperson reaffirmed that Thailand’s actions remain within its sovereign territory and are focused on organizing areas inside Thailand. He noted that the prolonged presence of Cambodian forces in certain areas may have led to misconceptions about the boundary.

According to the Royal Thai Army, Cambodia has now acknowledged that the areas in question are within Thailand’s sovereignty and not Cambodian territory as previously claimed. (NNT)
