Police investigate after a 31-year-old American man died in a lake at a housing estate in Samut Prakan following reports of erratic behavior and damage to a rented luxury home.

BANGKOK, Thailand – A 31-year-old American man died after acting erratically, defacing his rented 22-million-baht luxury home with paint, and jumping into a housing estate lake, local police said. According to authorities, the man fled from responding officers and jumped into the 10-meter-deep lake, where he became exhausted and submerged. Divers recovered his body after a 30-minute search. A security guard reported the man had been shouting, rolling on the ground, and praying before the police arrived.

The deceased’s 22-year-old girlfriend stated he had stayed awake the previous night and damaged the property with paint, adding she was unaware of any drug involvement. The property owner reported extensive paint damage to the walls, floors, and luxury furniture of the house, which was rented for 35,000 baht per month. Bang Phli police discovered two syringes and unidentified white pills inside the man’s vehicle and personal belongings. The body has been sent for an autopsy and toxicology screening, and authorities are coordinating with the U.S. Embassy. (TNA)
