BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued an alert for 54 provinces and Bangkok as heavy to very heavy rain is forecast from September 4 to 7. The weather could trigger flash floods, forest runoff, landslides, and waterlogging across parts of northern, northeastern, and central Thailand. The alert covers 17 northern, 20 northeastern, and 17 central provinces, as well as Bangkok. A monsoon trough across upper Thailand and a moderate southwest monsoon are expected to produce heavy rainfall. Authorities have been instructed to closely monitor weather conditions, rainfall, and water levels, especially in areas receiving more than 90 millimeters of rain within 24 hours.
Local agencies have also been told to deploy response teams and equipment to vulnerable locations, accelerate drainage in flood-prone areas, and prepare temporary evacuation shelters. Authorities should issue prompt warnings and restrict access to caves, waterfalls, and other natural attractions if conditions become dangerous. Residents in at-risk areas are advised to prepare essential supplies, move valuables to higher ground, check evacuation routes, and follow official warnings.
