2.2-Richter quake rocks Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI, 6 October 2014  Another earthquake has been reported in Mae Suai District of Chiang Rai Province. Fortunately, no injuries or damages have been reported so far.

At 22 minutes past midnight this morning (Oct 6), the Seismological Bureau detected a 1.7-magnitude quake in Mae Lao District of Chiang Rai Province. Then at 3.14 am, it also detected another quake in nearby Mae Suai District, measuring 2.2 on the Richter scale.

Initially, no damage has been reported in the area.

Chiang Rai Province has been rocked by several quakes this year, with the first major one measuring 6.3 magnitude on the Richter scale detected in May. More than a thousand aftershocks have since been reported, which have cast constant fears among local residents in the northernmost province of Thailand.
