Monday, July 11, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Bob Mulholland (9) 37pts

T2nd Jim Dundon (15) 36 points

T2nd Steve Wentworth (13) 36pts

Warmer temperatures and blustery weather were on the cards this week as a regional cell gave us mostly overcast skies and moments of much needed rainfall.  It was not a typical week for our wonderful little microclimate as we had rain at some unusual times that caught us by surprise.  Green Valley however was in great condition and seems to be getting better all the time.

There are lots of comings and goings these days as Bob Mulholland winds down his trip, Jay Burns heads home and Peter LeNoury gets back to town.  Nicky Handscombe is also away soon after a successful winning streak dominated by his long and accurate driving.

Steve Wentford is still with us after many of his mates have long since headed back downunder and his 36 point round today brought him a shared second place finish.  Jimmy Dundon was the other 36 point card and continued his run of consistent scoring.

Scotsman Bob Mulholland makes few mistakes out on the golf course but a few missed putts only put 37 points on the card.  Never mind Bob, it is still good enough for the win!  We also must thank Bob for his kind contributions to our Caddy Smile programme.  Speaking of which, the Caddy Smile near pin was won today by Pierre Gymer.

Tuesday, July 12, Phoenix Gold – PSC Members Monthly

We joined the gang of our fellow P.S.C. member bars at Phoenix today and I can tell you now that the course has improved dramatically since we played here last month.  The huge new putting green and chipping area is completed and is superb.  As we left, the scaffolding was coming down (all 50 feet tall of it!) in the clubhouse atrium just in time for the Kings Cup competition that begins on the 28th of July.  The new Lakes 9 has really come along nicely now and will certainly be ready for the big hitters.  Volunteers for the tournament (who will get free green fees and tournament gear) please see Phil Smedley.

Thursday, July 14, Khao Kheow (white tees) – Stableford

1st Steve Wentford (13) 43pts

2nd Fred Birch (20) 42pts

3rd Michael Otterman (17) 40pts

I don’t need to tell anyone of the virtues of this great track – Khao Kheow is one of our best.  We found the course in fine condition but just a bit wet from the recent (and welcome) rains.  As usual, we are always playing ‘lift, clean and place’ this time of year so as to make it fair for everyone.

There were some great scores turned in today and I can’t remember the last time 40 points would only get you third place!  Timing is everything as Michel Otterman will attest to.  On any other day a 40 point card would have brought victory, but today he had to settle for third place.  Two shots better was Fred Birch who has also seen the podium many times in the last month.  To top it off, Fred also won our Caddy Smile near pin contest!

Having his best ever round in Thailand, Aussie Steve Wentford could do no wrong and totalled up 43 points on the card.  It was one of those wonderful days on the course when everything was dropping!  Steve also claimed a second place with us on Monday so he is having a purple patch indeed.  Nice play Stevie, glad for you it was your turn!

We will return to Khao Kheow next month when the P.S.C. holds its Members Monthly, so see you all then.  Thanks for joining our gang for another great week of golf.
