Monday Nov. 25 Greenwood B+C Stableford

After many crossings out and additions we had a final number of twenty six starters for Greenwood, our second visit there in two weeks.

Why not go back there, as the course is still in beautiful condition, the greens have become a little quicker than last time, and we had 800 baht green fee vouchers.

The weather was hot, of course, but some cloud cover for most of the day made conditions pleasant enough.

We played one flight with four placings as well as the novelties and best nines.

Considering the good condition of the course, scoring was in the range we would expect, with the first seven places under or near handicap.

Mike Tottenham has worn the Green Jacket more than once before and his solid 38 points saw him pretty happy about wearing it again.

Richard Fearby played off a #1 handicap and scored a gross 72 for a point score of 37 to take second place.

Marco Beer, in his first game back, scored just 3 points on a nine to wear the “silly hat” but now his real form returned for him to post 36 points and win the countback to relegate David McKey to fourth place.

Near-pins: Bill Copeland (A flight), Richard Fearby (A flight), Mike Tottenham (B flight), Steve Baker (B flight)

Winners at Greenwood

1st Place -Mike Tottenham (19) – 38 pts

2nd Place -Richard Fearby (1) – 37 pts

3rd Place -Marco Beer (14) – 36 pts c/back

4th Place – David McKey (19) – 36 pts

Best Front Nine (C) (non-winners) – John Harrison – 20 pts

Best Back Nine (B) (non-winners) – John Coetzee – 20 pts c/back

Funny how things work. John Harrison won the best front nine with 20 points, but then wore the “silly hat” for also having the worst nine hole score of just 8 points.

Steve Baker played his first game since returning and hasn’t yet warmed up. His score, the lowest of the day, was 22 points and got him the “wig”.

Some “high season” pricing is holding us back from some courses but it gives us the opportunity to put courses with reasonable pricing, such as Greenwood, on our schedule more than once a month.

Footnote: John Pierrel thanks the management of Greenwood for the nicely presented hole-in-one certificate.
