This Monday morning started out quite warm and, as the day went on, managed to get to hot and humid, although with no threat of rain. Not that that means much, remember last Friday’s extravaganza?

Phil’s back on deck and dusted off the numbered marbles to do a draw for the playing order of the five groups of four-balls.

This Laem Chabang course was looking as good as ever, but this time a little dose of difficulty was thrown in for the players. Not only were we playing the, many would say, difficult ‘C’ course, but the fairways were quite wet from recent rains and there were plenty of mud and plugged balls. Phil’s decision to play preferred lies was to prove valuable for some.

However, the greens were up to the normal high standard and had good pace, although with some ‘imaginative’ pin placements.

At our last visit here in February, Serge Straeten finished stone motherless last, and that day didn’t include ‘C’ course. This day Serge had a complete reversal of form and finished on top of the list with a terrific 39 points.

Paul Smith, Michael Blumhagen and Wayne Peppernell all finished in the placings for that February round and did so once again with a slight change of order. Paul Smith came second with 38 points and then came three players on 35 points.

The countbacks had Michael Blumhagen taking third place from Wayne Peppernell in fourth and Mark On in fifth spot. Interestingly, Mark just missed a place that day but won a consolation ‘best nine’

Near Pins: Paul Smith, Mike Ehlert, & Peter Lacey (x2).

Winners at Laem Chabang
1st Place – Serge Straeten (26) – 39 pts
2nd Place – Paul Smith (3) – 38 pts
3rd Place – Michael Blumhagen (7) – 35 pts c/back

5th Place – Mark On (10) – 35 pts

Best Back Nine (non winners) – Dave Arataki – 16 pts

We will return to Laem Chabang on March 29 where we will almost certainly play the ‘C’ course again, but with the looming wet season, conditions may well be a little more challenging but, why not?
