Paul Davies is congratulated by a devoted supporter after his hard-fought win at Bangpra.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Tuesday, June 17 took the Mabprachan fiveball deep into the leafy wilds of Bangpra Golf Club—better known among veterans as Monkey Kingdom. The gang assembled in true low-season form: small in number, high in spirit. With the struggle to form two full flights harder than protecting your banana from a monkey ambush, it was a classic Bangpra adventure from the start.

It had been a while since the society braved this jungle course, and the welcome was nothing short of spectacular. Sunny skies, a mischievous breeze, and monkeys swinging across fairways like they were in the PGA Tour. The course itself? Absolutely stunning—fairways like green velvet, and bunkers better raked than your back garden.

Sadly, the players didn’t quite match the form of the course. Despite ideal conditions, not a single golfer managed to reach 30 Stableford points. Blame the distractions, the humidity, or the taunting of the local macaques. In the end, it was a 29-point tie between Paul Davies and Dave Smith, with Paul claiming victory on countback—probably thanks to a well-timed monkey snarl.

No near pins, and once again, the spoon goes unclaimed. If anyone sees it, please let us know—it may be hiding out with Elvis.

Results:
1st: Paul Davies (36) – 29 pts. (c/b)
2nd: Dave Smith (15) – 29 pts.

On Thursday, June 19, the Society teed it up at Treasure Hill, where the real find wasn’t gold but the return of Mark “Back-from-Britain” Bromwich. Sporting a sun-kissed glow and what looked suspiciously like extra yardage, Mark made it clear he hadn’t spent his UK break lounging with sausage rolls.

The turnout was modest—just three players—but the course was in excellent condition, and the weather played nice. Mark took the honours with a steady 30-point round, the only player this week to hit that milestone. Allan Cassin wasn’t far behind with a solid 28, but Mark’s Heathrow-fuelled form couldn’t be matched.

Still no near pins, and that elusive spoon remains AWOL. We’re starting to think it’s enjoying early retirement.

Results:
1st: Mark Bromwich (36) – 30 pts.
2nd: Allan Cassin (22) – 28 pts.

Next week, we return to the fairways with renewed hope, sharpened focus—and maybe a spoon tracker.

Mark Bromwich celebrates his victory at Treasure Hill with two enthusiastic fans.
