IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at The Links Bar

The Pattaya Golf Society started its new week with a visit to Treasure Hill to play a stableford competition off the yellow tees on a course which is rapidly improving: fairways are well grassed and the greens have recovered well from the deep coring and sanding of a few weeks ago.  With the current deal there may not be many courses who can match the value-for-money as things stand at the moment.

Still long and demanding from the shorter tees it drew all the skills out of the golfers and those who could dig deep found the results to match.  Chris Walsh recorded the only birdie ‘2’of the day, on the short sixth.  Sharing second place were Mike Davies and the newly returned Aussie Murray Edwards.  Their score was 28 points.  The winner was Toby Glass who had enjoyed such success on his previous visit and for the first time this trip he found everything in place for another exemplary round of 36 points.

Treasure Hill may be the toughest course the group plays but when the tough get going it can relent.  Well done Toby!

Close call at Green Valley

Green Valley hosted the Pattaya Golf Society on Wednesday, 6th July when the almost empty course saw a small group set about a stableford competition on the course which had improved fairways and improving greens.  The day was overcast and humid and for a couple in the field it was their first visit to Green Valley.

Scores were tight and the result saw halfway leader Mike Wilsher wilt in the conditions to take second place with 33 points.  The winner, with a fine back nine of nineteen, was Kevin Timbrell who finished with 34 points.

There were no birdie ‘2’s and little else to make comment about on a day when Green Valley welcomed the group back after a significant absence.

Timbrell doubles up

The Pattaya Golf Society visited Pattavia on Friday to play a stableford competition to end the week.  The course, so often maligned until the changes a few years back and so often lauded since the popular brewery took the course over, was in excellent condition and the greens were a tad more user friendly as the rains had softened them.  Not everyone enjoyed them however as one senior golfer took 25 putts on the first nine alone!

In a tight contest two golfers shared second place with 31 points; Karl Flood and Mike Davies, the latter playing his final round this trip.  However the golfer to beat at present is Aussie Kevin Timbrell.  Having seen his handicap reduced by three a week ago he showed his potential again with a second win this week with 34 points.

There were no birdie ‘2’s and Toby Glass saw his form shatter after sparkling at the start of the week and the Booby Bevy was the inevitable result.

Pattavia is well worth the trip up the 331 and its condition is always well set for a splendid day out.
