Sunday, July 23, Silky Oak – Stableford

1st Gary Emmett (13) 45pts

2nd Kevin McEntee (6) 36pts

3rd Stan Smith (33) 36pts

Just 8 players today for Silky Oak as a few of our regulars tried Green Valley, even though they had a couple of holes out of play.  Silky Oak was in perfect condition and the weather was on our side as well.

Gary Emmett has been playing well lately but today was a bit special, with a triple bogey on one hole he still had 76 gross for the best round of his life, way ahead of anyone else.  Next was Kevin McEntee, no stranger to the pay window, with 36 points, beating Stan Smith 19/18 on count back over the back-nine.

Due to the small numbers there were no near pins today.

Monday, July 24, Eastern Star – Stableford

1st Colin Davis (18) 38pts

2nd Lee Smith (33) 34pts

This was our first time at Eastern Star for about 2 years and a nice supprise greeted us on arrival as we got an all-inclusive deal of green fee, caddy fee and cart for 1,200 baht. The course was in excellent condition and even after the previous night’s rain carts were allowed on the fairways.  We thought the fairways would still be soft so we played from the yellow tees (6,100 yards) with a slope ratting of 116.  Next time we will be back to the white tees at 6,575 yards.

New boy Lee Smith, off his 33 handicap, blitzed the first 3 holes for 9 points but then he got reeled in after a couple of wide shots and some poor putting.  He was playing with the Donkey and although level after 9 holes he started to crumble soon after.  There was no stopping the old man on this day.

Wednesday, July 26, Burapha C & D – Stableford

1st Colin Davis (18) 38pts

2nd Stan Smith (33) 34pts

The weather was perfect for golf today, overcast but no rain.  The only problem was we thought we were playing A & B only to find we had a competition on there so we had to play C & D – not our favourite courses, but nothing we could do about it.

Stan was out for revenge over The Donkey and after 5 holes he was 6 shots ahead.  The Donkey was having a mare of a start but he got his head together and began to pull back the deficit.  Slowly hole by hole he edged out in front and won by four points.

Friday, July 28, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

1st Stan Smith (33) 36pts

2nd Steve Baker (20) 34pts

3rd Barry Oats (25) 33pts

Just a small group again today for the challenge of Mountain Shadow.  This is not the easiest of courses anytime but today we made real hard work of it.  The only one to shine was Stan Smith with 21 points on the front and 15 on the back.

Steve Baker saved his round with a chip-in on stroke index 1 hole for 5 points (if it had not hit the pin it would have been in the far bunker).  Barry Oats, playing in the second group, took third place with 33 points and garnered a near pin award to boot.
