IPGC Golf from The Tara Court Golf

Sunday, Jan. 3, Green Valley – Stableford

Today we had our first Sunday game of 2016 at Green Valley.  We finished 2015 with a record number of golfers and started 2016 in the same manner, actually, unfortunately today we had to refuse a couple of golfers as we were booked out and could not accommodate them.

David Thomas, the Chairman of the IPGC, joined us for the last game here of 2015 and was back again today and what better way to start the new year than by winning the A Flight with 37 points, beating George Cullen on count back.

David Thomas.

Barney Sheedy had just arrived in Thailand and got off to a flying start to his holiday by taking third place with a level par 36 points.  Mark Lang matched that score but had to settle for fourth place on count back.  Jon Batty took the fifth place a further point back.

In B Flight, Russell Gilroy, who had been out of form for the past while, took the top spot today with 37 points.  Donal Lyne, who is just starting to find his form, took second two points back of Russell and we then had three players tied on 34 points with Damien Montague wining the count back to come third, Joe Peters taking fourth and Andy Galvin fifth.

We had a record number of ‘2’s today for our group with ten golfers; Jon Batty, Nick Caulfield, Alec Hoare, Barney Sheedy, Joe Peters, Russell Gilroy, Kevin Blake, Evelyn McNamara, David Thomas and John Dearden getting one each.

Tuesday, Jan. 5, Crystal Bay – Stableford

We originally booked Mountain Shadow for Tuesday but a few days before we went we discovered that a group which we had had the misfortune to be behind on two occasions before were already booked to play there and were scheduled to be in front of our group again.  Because of this we asked if we could change our booking over to Crystal Bay and the management graciously agreed so we didn’t have to endure another five hour plus round of golf.

We had a very enjoyable round of golf and got around comfortably in four hours.  We also had some very good scores today; Donal Lyne has now definitely found his form and today topped the A Flight with a very credible 39 points, with Ted Morris coming second on 36.  We had two players a point back with Damien Montague coming out on top on count back and Frank McGowan having to settle for fourth.

Donal Lyne.

In the B Flight, Ged Foy had the best score of the day and won with 40 points.  Joe Peters, who seems to get in the prizes most days now despite his reduction in his handicap, came second with 38 and we then had another count back with two players on 35; Frank McNamara coming out on top over Ger Lodge.

We had three ‘2’s today, coming from Ged Foy, Fred O’Connor and John Fenwick.

A Flight

1st Donal Lyne (15) 39pts

2nd Ted Morris (13) 36pts

3rd Damien Montague (18) 35pts

4th Frank McGowan (18) 35pts

1st Ged Foy (23) 40pts

2nd Joe Peters (20) 38pts

4th Ger Lodge (19) 37pts

Thursday, Jan. 7, Khao Kheow – Stableford

We were at Khao Kheow today where we played the B and C nines, a combination which we hadn’t played for some time.  While it was a perfect day for golf, not too hot and we got around quickly, the scoring was very poor indeed.

Some of the group who managed to get into the prizes were very surprised, none more so than Fred O’Connor who got fourth place in B Flight with a miserable 26 points.  Ger Lodge wasn’t much better and he got third with 27.  Evelyn McNamara had a more respectable 31 points to come second and Evelyn also topped up her winnings with the only ‘2’ of the day.  Joe Peters kept up his good run to win the B Flight with 33 points.

In the A Flight the scores were a little bit better but not much, with Joe McArdle taking fourth place with 31 points, Allan Parker third with 32 and then we had two players on 33 with John Chambers edging the count back to get the better of Donal Lyne.

A Flight

1st John Chambers (9) 33pts

2nd Donal Lyne (15) 33pts

3rd Allan Parker (10) 32pts

4th Joe McArdle (13) 31pts

B Flight

1st Joe Peters (20) 33pts

2nd Evelyn McNamara (21) 31pts

3rd Ger Lodge (19) 27pts

4th Fred O;Connor (25) 26pts
