Monday, Feb. 12, Greenwood – Stableford

We were playing the B and C courses today with three divisions out and the equal cut set at 10-15, 16-21 and 22+ and with 38 points Alfie Butler recorded the best score of the day to win division 2.  Mike Lewis was second behind Alfie on 36, Bert Jumelet took third with 34 and Alan Bissell with 32 was fourth and Harry Vincenzi completed the podium in fifth with 30 points.

Bob Comartin topped division 1 with 35 points and the Irish boy Jerry McCarthy was second on 33.  Dennis Scougall beat Nik Evans on a 7/6 back-three count-back for third after they both came in with 32 points and Terry Madsen finished in fifth place, beating Neil Gamble 11/10 on the back-nine after they both shot 31 points.

Rick Assi was on pole podium position in division three with 31 points while Mike Fitzgerald was second one point behind.  Robert Angell placed third with 29, Gerard took fourth on 27 and Karel Ferdinandus finished fifth with 24.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Per Forsberg, Neil Gamble and Niels Viuff, and (Div 2) Rick Assi, Alfie Butler and John Fahey.

Amazingly with ten groups out today there are no two’s in either division.

Wednesday, Feb. 14, The Emerald – Stableford

Another ten groups out today with an almost identical cut in the three divisions as of Monday but the scores were slightly higher,

Theo Bahrt’s 40 points was the highest score of the day, winning division 3 ahead of Alan Bissell one point behind.  Rick Assi took third place on 36 points, Rudi Schaefer was fourth on 32 and David Phillips placed fifth with 31 points, beating Mike Fitzgerald on a 14/12 back-nine count-back.

Neil Gamble was the winner in division 1 with 37 points while Paul Young took second place, beating Niels Viuff on a 19/16 count-back after they both scored 35.  Dave Horne finished fourth on 33 and Dennis Scougall was fifth after edging out Brian Green and Les Smith 18/17/16 on count-back after they all scored 32 points.

Alfie Butler beat Paul Butler to top spot in division 2 with a 22/20 back-nine count-back after they both scored 37 points, Bob Poole edged Mike Lewis 17/13 to take third, both scoring 31 overall, and in fifth place was Paul Sturgeon on a count-back over Barry Stirling and Ger Lodge.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Ian Dodds, Dave Horne (2) and Paul Young, and (Div 2) Rick Assi, Alan Bissell, Paul Butler and Mike Fitzgerald.

There were five ‘2’s in division 1 for Ian Dodds, Dave Horne, Horst Starchl, Niels Viuff and Paul Young and only one birdie in division 2, coming from Alan Bissell.

Friday, Feb. 16, Eastern Star – Stableford

It was a tough test of golf out there today with some of the slickest greens on the front nine we have experienced here and this was reflected in the scores.

Paul Butler produced the best round, winning division 2 with 35 points while Bill kana was second on 34.  Five points behind in third place was Frank Kelly and Alfie Butler took fourth after beating Ger Lodge 17/12 on count-back, both scoring 28 points.

Ted Lodge won division 1 with 34 points, Brian Green was second on 32 and there was a sad Irish face as Per Forsberg beat Jerry McCarthy 18/14 after they both came in with 29 points each.

Max Wilson with 31 points was the winner in division 3, Josef Kemplfe took second on 29, Gerry Doyle placed third with 28 and Finn Olsen finished fourth on 27.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Per Forsberg, Jerry McCarthy and Dennis Scougall (2), and (Div 2) John Fahey and Bert Jumelet.

In the ‘2’s today, Ted Lodge and Dennis Scougall birdied the 17th and in division 2 there was a rollover to next Friday here.
