Police arrested an alleged drug dealer armed with both a handgun and an assault rifle.

Noparath Chaemcharoen, 25, was brought to a police news conference Feb. 9 after being taken into custody at his Naklua Soi 12 apartment.

Inside the room police found an AK-47 rifle, 9 mm. handgun, 25 methamphetamine tablets and 1.9 grams of crystal meth.

Pattaya police chief Pol. Col. Apichai Kroppech said investigators had been surveilling Noparath for a while after reports of his suspicious activity.

Undercover officers discovered he was dealing drugs and also was in possession of illegal weapons, Apichai said.

The suspect claimed the guns were not his and, in fact, belonged to fishing boat crewman Rasen Chomsaengkaew, 35, who recently was busted for drug possession and stashed the guns at Noparath’s place.

He did admit, however, dealing drugs and named his supplier for police.
