PATTAYA, Thailand – The Bunker Boys closed out March and opened April with three competitive outings, featuring changing conditions, fluctuating scoring, and strong individual performances across Greenwood, Bangpakong Riverside, and Pattana Golf Courses.
The final game of March was held on the 30th at Greenwood’s C & B nines, and it was also the group’s first opportunity to experience the newly opened clubhouse. The facilities were modern and well presented, with floor-to-ceiling lockers adding a touch of class, though the shower pressure left room for improvement. Ongoing construction around the clubhouse suggests further enhancements are still to come.
On the course, conditions were generally good, although some areas were slightly overwatered. A steady breeze helped manage the heat at times, but when it dropped, the humidity quickly became noticeable. Scoring proved difficult for most players, with the greens presenting a particular challenge.
Paul Smith continued his remarkable form, recording his third consecutive round of 38 points to take first place. Hubert Stiefenhofer produced a solid round for second, while Uli Mueller claimed third. Paul also dominated the near pins with two, alongside Colin Greig.
As it was the final round of the month, the Golfer of the Month title was decided. Despite a strong late push from Paul Smith, Michael Brett held on to secure the March honours.
Results:
1st Paul Smith (4) – 38 points
2nd Hubert Stiefenhofer (19) – 34 points
3rd Uli Mueller (13) – 32 points
Near Pins: Colin Greig & Paul Smith (2)
On Wednesday, April 1, a smaller group made the trip north to Bangpakong Riverside, where they were rewarded with a course in excellent condition and minimal traffic, allowing for a smooth and uninterrupted round.
In stark contrast to earlier in the week, scoring was exceptionally high. Michael Brett found top form, particularly on the greens, to post an outstanding 45 points and take a convincing win. Les Cobban impressed with 43 points off a 12 handicap, while Jimmy Carr’s 41 points was only enough for third in a high-scoring field. Near pins were evenly shared between Jimmy Carr and Michael Brett, each taking two.
Results:
1st Michael Brett (17) – 45 points
2nd Les Cobban (12) – 43 points
3rd Jimmy Carr (23) – 41 points
Near Pins: Jimmy Carr (2) & Michael Brett (2)
The week concluded with a welcome return to Pattana Golf Course on Friday, April 3, where the B & C nines were in very good condition overall. The greens, however, proved deceptively slow and at times slightly uneven, adding to the day’s challenge. A variable breeze also kept players guessing throughout the round.
With an early start and no delays, the group completed the round in good time. In what was his final game for the time being, Uli Mueller signed off in style with a well-earned victory. Paul Smith once again featured near the top with a consistent performance, while Robby Watts secured third place.
All near pins were claimed, with Uli Mueller leading the way with two, while Paul Smith and Craig Dows each took one.

1st Uli Mueller (13) – 37 points
2nd Paul Smith (3) – 35 points
3rd Robby Watts (15) – 32 points
