PSC Pattaya Links Golf Society

Wed. Dec. 4 Pattana C+B Stableford

It seems that the word has got around about the great price for playing afternoons at Pattana. Since we again had forty plus players, we asked for a two tee start. This was not possible as the A course was closed but management allowed us to start at 11.45 instead of 12.00. In fact, our first group got away a few minutes earlier than that.

This three-ball made very good time around the C course only to arrive at the B course to find many groups, including at least two five-balls, ahead of them which caused a twenty five minute wait to tee off for their second nine.

There was one large contingent from another Pattaya Golf Society as well as many players who, we assume, were guests at the Pattana Hotel/Resort. In the end our last group came in just on last light.

It goes without saying that the course was once again in great condition in every department. The weather was something different with a strong wind blowing most of the day and the temperature way down, which Thailand is experiencing currently. A very comfortable, albeit, slow round.

Bill Copeland is making a habit of wearing the Green Jacket and, after winning in October followed by two wins in November, has started December in the same fashion. How many this month?

Bill scored 41 points for the A flight win, closely followed by George Mueller who went away for a while, but he is definitely back, with a 40 point haul. Phil Davies returned to some form to take third place on 36 points ahead of Livio Marrone grabbing fourth with 34 points.

B flight also produced some good scores where returnee, George Wilson, won with 40 points. Tony Browne has shown good form recently and 39 points got him second spot.

Niall Caven has been consistent this trip and here he won a countback over Bill Stewart, both with 36 points.

With the big field we added some extra near pins again.

Near pins A flight: Mike Ehlert, Greg Smith, Wayne Peppernell, Peter Lace. B flight: Panda Aree, Larry Slattery, Peter Allen, Tony Browne

Due to the late return to Links Bar, and the would-be recipient of the silly hat did not return to the bar at all, Phil decided to leave the booby prizes in the bag, but of course, presented the Green Jacket to Bill.

JJ Harney, the joke cracking Irishman, came to play with us and donated a prize for 2s, which we don’t normally do.

Unfortunately, out of 43 players, no-one managed to achieve that feat but the gesture by JJ was much appreciated.

One more time to go at the special price and hopefully the A course will be open to enable the crowds to be spread over the three nines.
