Bunker Boys @ The Bowling Green

Monday, June 18, Treasure Hill – Stableford

It was millionaire’s golf again today as we arrived at Treasure Hill to find that we had the course to ourselves.  This course has improved tremendously over the past year, and today it was in excellent condition, with the greens being some of the best we’ve played on in recent weeks.

Perhaps the course is a little too daunting for some, being one of the toughest in the area, but it always provides a good test of golf, and most players struggle to better their handicap here.

We had a brief ten minute shower of rain on the 14th hole, but other than that, conditions were ideal.  Sean Murphy continued his run of consistent form to win the competition ahead of Dave Ashman.

1st Sean Murphy (14) 33pts

2nd Dave Ashman (14) 32pts

3rd Geoff Parker (13) 31pts

Wednesday, June 20, Bangpra – Stableford

Golf in Thailand doesn’t get better than this; as we arrived at Bangpra to find that once again we had the course virtually to ourselves.  The weather was near perfect again with a light breeze keeping the temperature down, and no sign of rain on the horizon.

Work is being done re-turfing many of the tee boxes, which meant in many cases that the tees were up to 50 yards further back than normal, and two of the par threes were almost 200 yards into the breeze.

Today the greens were even slicker than normal, producing numerous three putts and some choice language as the ball rolled relentlessly down the slopes.  Dave Ashman learned an early lesson on the first green as his putt rolled fifteen feet past the hole, but lessons learned produce good results, and he went on to produce the best score of the day.

1st Dave Ashman (14) 33pts

2nd Geoff Parker (13) 31pts

3rd Barry Murnin (14) 29pts

Near Pins:  Sean Murphy and Paul Edgar

Friday, June 22, Emerald – Medal

There was only a small contingent of Bunker Boys today, with a group of regulars playing in the monthly PSC competition.

Paul Edgar, playing only his second game since his return from UK took advantage of the reduced field to win the honours on the day ahead of PJ Redmond.  Sean Murphy, playing his last game before returning to Ireland, was in third place, giving a final boost to his points total for the Golfer of the Month title.  Sean and Dave Ashman are now tied on 53 points, and Dave has three games left to secure the necessary extra point, but close contenders Barry Murnin and Geoff Parker will make it is difficult as possible for him, in what has become a very close four horse race.

1st Les Burns (28) net 71

2nd Dave Ashman (15) net 71

3rd Barry Murnin (15) net 74

Note:  The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society who now play out of the Bowling Green on Soi X-Zyte between Pattaya 3rd Road and Soi Buakhaow.  We play three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why not come and join us.

We meet at the Bowling Green at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players with valid handicaps are always welcome.  For more information call Dave on 087 146 9978, email [email protected].
