Eastern Star Wed. May 20 Stableford

Since the resumption of golf after the lockdown, the courses we have attended have all seemed very quiet where, mostly, we have had millionaire’s golf, at least at the time of day we were there.

Today was very different at Eastern Star, even though the friendly, efficient, lady starter told me it was not busy.(?)

We did the new way of checking in easily and paid the great price of 1350 baht all-in before heading to the muster area. Each club has different arrangements and today the lockers here were not available, some do, some don’t.

Our tee time was 10.00 am and we started pretty much on time, the first of our five groups settling in behind two Thai five-balls, who made good pace for the round. Then, after us, came a steady stream of golfers still going to the first tee as late as 1.15 pm.

The condition of this course has improved considerably in the last couple of years and is looking good. The greens are very good, and today they were quite hard with plenty of pace and, just to test us, some pin placements were sited in interesting positions.

As our first group teed off there were threatening dark clouds hanging around the course. Our final group was 10 minutes into the round as the rain came down. This time, however, it was a mere sprinkle for about 5 minutes and so the remainder of the day turned to dry and hot, with little in the way of a breeze for relief.

Each group finished the round in about two hours and, still no showers, it was into the bus and cars for the trip back to Links.

A nice day out on a nice golf course but, apart from two of the players, the scores were nothing to write home about. When we have competition again that might change, for some.
