Two civic organizations from Pattaya and Hong Kong teamed up to donate more than 1 million baht to a local AIDS charity.

The Lions Club of Phoenix Hong Kong and the Rotary Club of Phoenix-Pattaya each donated 500,000 baht to Dr. Philippe Seur’s Heart 2000 organization. Hong Kong chapter President Alice Yip chipped in another 150,000 baht.

Yip, presidents Rosita Li-Meier and Kelly Yong, and President-elect Angela Leung were on hand when the two clubs made their presentation Jan. 14 at a party at the Holiday Inn Pattaya. Representing the Pattaya Rotary Club was Past President Hubert Meier, President Peter Schlegel and members of other clubs.

The Hong Kong Lions have been supporting Heart 2000 since 2011. Seur said he now cares for 2,598 HIV- and AIDS-infected patients and claimed his treatments had resulted in the birth of 80 healthy babies from HIV-infected mothers.

The Hong Kong Lions and Pattaya Rotarians – whose clubs are not related despite the “Phoenix” in both their names – have collaborated before, including helping the Hand to Hand Foundation and Banglamung Home for the Elderly.

Schlegel, organizers of the Heart 2000 project, thanked the Lions for their continued willingness to help Thais and said he hoped it will continue.

The party was a festive, celebratory affair in the Holiday Inn’s Executive Tower, which put on a large buffet and offering of fine wines. All the guests received door prizes.
