Surrounded by sugar cane and rice fields, the Special Education Centre (SEC) in Bang Beung sits quietly without interference from traffic or industry. It is an ideal quiet location for a centre that cares for children that are in wheelchairs, are autistic, have Down syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy and other disabling ailments.

This is an exciting way to learn.
This is an exciting way to learn.

Members of the Billabong visited the SEC and discovered that Kak and her dedicated staff have more than 350 children registered. They maintain a flexible and sensitive attitude to all the families in and around the Chonburi area for their students can visit on a daily basis, a few hours per week or a limited number can reside on the premises between Monday and Friday.

Educating the children both physically and mentally is their prime objective and to help in this regard an adventure room is available to provide the children with some experience of visiting a temple, market, beach and a jungle which leads them to a mini zoo to be able to meet and understand animal behaviour.

But the Billabong was asked by Kak to help in purchasing a new idea using modern technology developed in Australia which is perfect for children with learning difficulties. A specific program has been designed to allow figures and objects to be projected onto a screen which can be moved or altered with just a touch of the screen. The teacher can also adjust the difficulty of the projected image to suit the ability of the student.

This system is more than just a game.
This system is more than just a game.

Learning is now not boring but fun and because the children treat this system as a game they seem to absorb more information. Since this facility has been available the teachers have been impressed by the improvements made by their students. By recognizing modern technology and employing these exciting new teaching methods, we are not only making studying more interesting for the children but we are also making life a little easier for the teachers.

Thank you Billabong.
