Pattaya residents are grumbling that World Environment Day in Pattaya should have been renamed Garbage Day.

The city has been struggling for more than a year with a growing mountain of trash that has overwhelmed both its rubbish hauler and dump sites.

An expat resident in central Pattaya on June 5 showed a reporter a photo of a large pile of waste on Soi Arunothai that has been ignored by the city for weeks.

He said construction workers are to blame for the mess both there and on Soi Bongkot. Not only have Pattaya officials failed to prevent illegal dumping, they haven’t cleaned it up, said the foreign man, who didn’t provide his name.
