PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has warned of increasing rainfall across the country, with heavy to very heavy showers expected in parts of the East and the western South—particularly in Ranong, Phangnga, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. Residents are urged to be cautious of flash floods and potential landslides, especially in low-lying areas and near waterways, as the southwest monsoon strengthens over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Sea conditions are rough, with waves reaching 2 meters in the upper Andaman and 1–2 meters elsewhere; areas experiencing thunderstorms may see even higher waves. Mariners are advised to navigate carefully and avoid sailing in stormy conditions.

A depression east of the Philippines is likely to intensify into a tropical storm, expected to make landfall in southern China around September 19–20.

For the next 24 hours, Bangkok and its vicinity can expect thunderstorms covering 70% of areas, with isolated heavy rain. Northern, northeastern, central, eastern, and southern regions will similarly face scattered to heavy showers, with local warnings issued for Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat.

As for Pattaya, escaping the rain seems unlikely. Visitors and residents should prepare for showers, potentially heavy at times, and take precautions if planning outdoor activities or travel.
