A Thai Meteorological Department chart shows unstable weather patterns affecting Pattaya and much of Thailand ahead of forecast summer storms later this month.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s weather is turning unstable, with thunderstorms forecast across much of the country and summer storms expected between February 23 and 25, according to the Thai Meteorological Department.

Meteorologists said northern Thailand is already experiencing thunderstorms and occasional strong winds as southeasterly and southwesterly winds converge over the upper region. At the same time, a moderate high-pressure system from China continues to cover the Northeast, bringing cooler morning temperatures there, while the East sees scattered showers due to easterly winds from the Gulf of Thailand.

For Pattaya and surrounding parts of Chonburi province, conditions remain mixed. While Pattaya is not under the most severe weather systems affecting the North, forecasters warn of intermittent thunderstorms, particularly as moist easterly and southeasterly winds continue to influence the eastern seaboard. Residents and tourists are advised to stay alert to sudden downpours, gusty winds, and brief disruptions, especially in coastal and open areas.

In southern Thailand, isolated thunderstorms are also expected. Winds over the lower Gulf of Thailand are moderate, with waves reaching around two meters and exceeding that height during storms. Authorities have urged small boats and marine operators in both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea to exercise caution and avoid sailing during thunderstorms.

Looking ahead, the Thai Meteorological Department warned that summer storms will affect upper Thailand from February 23 to 25, bringing thunderstorms, strong winds, lightning, and isolated hailstorms. These conditions are expected as a westerly wind trough passes over the North and Northeast while much of the country experiences hot weather. Although Pattaya lies outside the core impact zone, spillover effects such as heavy rain bands and sudden wind squalls remain possible.

Air quality across northern, central, and eastern regions, including Bangkok and its metropolitan area, is currently at moderate levels, with dust and haze accumulating due to weak air circulation.

Authorities are advising people in Pattaya and other tourist destinations to monitor weather updates closely, take care of their health amid changing conditions, and avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, particularly near beaches, construction sites, and open roads.
