Pattaya’s peaceful skies won’t last — prepare for heavy rain, flash floods, and high waves.

PATTAYA, Thailand – Although Pattaya’s skies may appear calm these few days, the Thai Meteorological Department warns that this peace could be fleeting. Across the country, especially in the Northeast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast, accompanied by thunderstorms and dangerous weather conditions.

The meteorological report issued on June 12 highlights that many parts of Thailand will experience intense thunderstorms, with some areas of the Northeast—such as Loei, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, and Ubon Ratchathani—expected to face heavy to very heavy rains that could cause flash floods and sudden water runoff, especially near slopes and low-lying areas. Farmers are advised to prepare for potential damage to crops caused by the heavy rainfall.

In the eastern region, including Pattaya’s Chonburi province, thunderstorms and scattered heavy showers are expected. The seas in the upper Andaman region and the upper Gulf of Thailand will be particularly rough, with waves reaching 2 to 3 meters high and more than 3 meters in stormy zones. Small boats are strongly advised not to sail until June 13 to avoid danger.

This unsettled weather pattern is caused by a monsoon trough crossing the lower Northern and upper Northeastern regions, combined with strong southwest monsoon winds covering the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

The Meteorological Department also notes the presence of Tropical Storm “Wutip” in the northern South China Sea, which is expected to pass over Hainan Island and southern China around June 13–14, but it will not impact Thailand directly.

Daily forecasts across Thailand warn of widespread thunderstorms with varying degrees of rainfall, from the northern mountains to the central plains and the southern coasts, reinforcing the need for vigilance and caution.

For Pattaya visitors and residents, this means that despite the current serene weather, it’s essential not to let your guard down. Sudden storms and rough seas can appear without much warning, impacting safety on land and at sea. Travelers planning boat trips or outdoor activities should keep a close eye on weather updates and heed local advisories.

In short, don’t trust the calm skies in Pattaya too much—nature’s mood can shift fast, and preparedness is the best protection.
