PATTAYA, Thailand — Thailand’s Meteorological Department reports that northern and central regions, including Pattaya, continue to experience thunderstorms, while the southern provinces face heavy rainfall in some areas. In the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, waves have reached up to 1 meter, rising above 2 meters in stormy areas, prompting warnings for local and passing vessels.
The current weather is influenced by northeast and southeast winds blowing across the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. Residents are advised to remain cautious in flood-prone areas and during travel, especially in areas with standing water. Boaters should navigate carefully and avoid stormy waters.
Meanwhile, the depression east of the Philippines has intensified into Tropical Storm Fengchen, expected to move across northern Luzon into the upper South China Sea on October 18–19. The storm is projected to approach southern Hainan Island, China, and central Vietnam around October 21–22 before rapidly weakening. Although Fengchen will not directly enter Thailand, it will strengthen northeast winds from northern Thailand to upper southern provinces, affecting Pattaya with gusty conditions and occasional showers.
In Pattaya, residents and tourists should expect sporadic thunderstorms and stronger coastal winds over the coming days. Local authorities recommend securing boats and outdoor equipment and monitoring updates from the Meteorological Department for safety advisories.
