PATTAYA, Thailand — Pattaya is heading into a more unsettled spell of weather this week, with thunderstorms, heavy cloud and stronger winds expected between Tuesday and Friday, August 18–21. The latest forecast points to increasingly unstable conditions across Pattaya and Chonburi, with the most notable change expected from Aug. 18 onward. Thunderstorms are forecast, particularly later in the day on Tuesday, followed by scattered showers and windy conditions through Thursday and Friday.
For Pattaya, the developing pattern is more likely to mean periods of heavy rain, sudden gusts and rougher sea conditions rather than a direct hit from a major tropical storm. The weather comes during Thailand’s southwest monsoon season, when weather systems moving across the region can quickly produce intense thunderstorms and short periods of strong winds. The situation will be particularly important for Pattaya’s beaches, islands and marine tourism operators. Sudden thunderstorms can produce locally rough seas, while strong winds can make conditions hazardous for smaller boats, jet skis and other water activities.
The Thai Meteorological Department has previously warned that during active monsoon periods, waves in the upper Gulf of Thailand can reach around 1–2 meters and rise higher during thunderstorms.
