AYUTTHAYA, Thailand – Three million baht in banknotes reportedly scattered across a road in Bang Pa-in district, drawing people to the scene before a local couple came up with a quick way to stop the scramble and help recover the money. The couple, identified as Somkid and his wife, operate a car dealership tent in the area. When they saw the banknotes scattered across the road, they joined others in collecting the cash.
With people initially rushing to pick up the money, Somkid quickly shouted, “It’s my money!” The unexpected announcement made people stop competing to grab the notes and instead helped gather the scattered cash. Once the money had been collected, the couple immediately took it to the police station and handed it over. Police checked nearby CCTV footage and quickly contacted the woman who owned the money. She reportedly had not yet realised that about 3 million baht had fallen onto the road. It was suspected that she had placed a bag containing the cash at the back of her vehicle and forgotten about it before driving away, causing the money to scatter along the road.
The owner was reportedly delighted to recover the full amount and tried to offer the couple a reward as a gesture of thanks. However, Somkid and his wife declined to accept any money.
The incident has drawn praise for the couple’s quick thinking and honesty, particularly their decision to turn a potentially chaotic scramble for cash into a collective effort to return the money to its owner.
