BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has implemented new Prime Minister’s Office regulations to streamline and expedite deportation procedures for foreign offenders, aiming to complete deportations within 30 days of an order, a government spokesperson said on Friday. Ratchada Thanadirek said the regulations, effective Aug. 28, establish clearer guidelines and inter-agency data integration among the Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, the Immigration Bureau, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
The rules outline six grounds for deportation: illegal entry or stay, unauthorized employment, unlawful business operations, document forgery, offenses carrying prison terms of three years or more, and aiding or abetting any of these acts. They also cover foreign visitors engaging in disruptive behavior or violating local laws and customs. Under the framework, authorities will coordinate data prior to an offender’s release from custody to shorten detention times. If a deportee lacks travel funds, state budget allocations may be authorized under Interior Ministry guidelines to cover return costs. (TNA)
