KATHMANDU, Nepal – The Public Relations Department (PRD) joined representatives from 10 Asia-Pacific countries in Kathmandu, Nepal, on August 24 for an Executive Board meeting of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), where discussions covered artificial intelligence, digital transformation, media credibility, and the changing broadcasting landscape.
Nutthanun Rajanakorn, director of the PRD’s Foreign Affairs Division, attended with a delegation of PRD officials. The meeting, chaired by Urbasi Basnyat of Public Service Broadcasting Nepal and vice chair of the AIBD Executive Board, was joined by representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Malaysia, the Maldives, Nepal, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand.
AIBD Director Philomena Gnanapragasam presented the institute’s work in 2026, including AI and digital technology, media sustainability, climate and disaster communication, and emerging broadcasting technologies. Members discussed the responsible use of AI in public media, maintaining reliable information and expanding cooperation on emergency communication, technology, and professional knowledge.
The board also reviewed AIBD’s performance, member needs, financial management, 2027 budget, and plans before relevant proposals are submitted to the AIBD General Conference. Established with UNESCO support, AIBD has 87 member organizations across 42 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region. (NNT)
