PATTAYA, Thailand – A heated argument between a taxi driver and a young passenger escalated into a violent fight at a Bangkok gas station after a dispute over a missed expressway exit and additional toll charges. The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared on Thai social media on Tuesday, reportedly began when the passenger booked a taxi through a ride-hailing application for a trip from the Pinklao area to Bang Na. According to reports, the passenger agreed to use the expressway and paid the toll fees. However, tensions rose after the driver allegedly missed the Bang Na exit, forcing the vehicle to continue and incur another toll charge.

The passenger then reportedly questioned the driver by asking, “Do you even know how to drive?” — a remark that appeared to anger the driver. Witnesses and footage shared online showed the driver pulling into a nearby gas station before confronting the passenger. As the passenger attempted to photograph the driver’s identification card to file a complaint, the situation turned physical. The driver allegedly opened the rear passenger door and kicked the passenger several times. During the struggle, the passenger managed to pull the driver to the ground before striking him during the altercation. Bystanders later stepped in to separate the two men.

According to the “Taxi Thai” page, police have now taken over the case and are questioning both parties to determine how the confrontation began and whether charges will be filed. Initial reports said the taxi driver suffered head injuries and facial swelling, while the vehicle itself was not damaged. The incident has also sparked online discussion about passenger safety and rising tensions involving public transport services in Thailand. Tourists visiting destinations such as Pattaya are often advised to use licensed taxis or reputable ride-hailing applications, confirm routes and toll arrangements in advance, and avoid escalating confrontations during disputes.
