When Pattaya widened Beach Road, many area taxi drivers said “thank you very much”. Now they had a place to park.
Up and down the 2.7-kilometer road, long queues of taxis took up parking spaces for residents, business owners and tourists. Those not occupied by the meter cabs usually are grabbed by baht buses, even though both are only supposed to stop in 17 designated zones.
The result has been continual traffic congestion, a contrast from Bang Saen, where parking spaces for tourists are clearly marked.
The city has yet to successfully tackle the problem, although based on an Oct. 30 inspection, no one really seemed to be trying.
