A 25-year-old man was critically injured after an argument turned into gunfire in Takhiantia.

Jirayu Jantarungsri, 25, suffered a 9mm gunshot to the head in the Dec. 19 shootout in Sancharoen Village. He was transported to Banglamung Hospital.

Police quickly arrested Komsan Sirijampa, 26, at his cousin’s house along with the Glock pistol used.

Police said Komsan confessed that he shot Jirayu, but only in self-defense.

The suspect said he was fixing a motorbike at the crime scene when Jirayu arrived with Apichart Kaithong, 29, who was there to mediate a long-running dispute between the two men.

Their conflict wasn’t resolved, however, and, as the argument heated up, Jirayu went to his Toyota Fortuner and pulled out an 11mm handgun and fired twice at Komsan, but missed.

Komsan said he pulled his own gun and fired off numerous rounds in self-defense, hitting Jirayu once in the head.

He was charged with attempted murder.
