PATTAYA, Thailand – Residents and visitors in Pattaya are being advised to stay alert as the Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain in parts of eastern Thailand, with accumulated rainfall potentially causing flash floods and water runoff in vulnerable areas. The warning, issued on July 17, said the southwest monsoon continues to influence the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, while a low-pressure system remains over upper Vietnam, bringing thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain to some areas.
For the eastern region, heavy rain is forecast in parts of Chanthaburi and Trat, while other areas, including Pattaya and Chonburi, may experience scattered thunderstorms. Authorities urged people in low-lying areas, near waterways, and locations prone to flooding to remain cautious. The Meteorological Department also warned that seas in the upper Gulf of Thailand could see waves of 1–2 metres, with waves higher than 2 metres during thunderstorms. Boat operators and beach users are advised to exercise caution and avoid entering the sea during stormy conditions. Visitors and residents in Pattaya are encouraged to monitor weather updates, avoid flooded roads, and take extra care when travelling during periods of heavy rainfall.
