Soi Chaiyaphum residents are calling on city hall to take control of their long-neglected street and repave it after an online video mocked just how bumpy and dilapidated it has become.

Officially known as Soi Chalermprakiat 25, the half-kilometer street linking Soi Buakhao and Third Road has emerged as a busy street of cheap bars and restaurants aimed at expats.

Laundry owner Thanapat Wasaprasertsuk, 53, said in the 12 years she has lived on the street, it has become bumpier and bumpier and now causes accidents by motorbikes, especially during rainy season and at night.

Residents said they petitioned city hall to repave the soi, but were told it was not their responsibility, as the road is private.

Thanapat argued that Pattaya used to do maintenance annually to level the surface, so she believes the city should take full responsibility and resurface all of Soi Chaiyaphum.
