Show over for Sattahip stage monkeys after owners’ drug arrests

Two performing monkeys are out of work after their owners were arrested for allegedly dealing drugs in Sattahip.

Kanchana Anampol, 38, and Sakuna Sutthipiboon, 24, were taken into custody after a raid of their Soi Bonkai apartment April 10. Police and district officials seized 470 methamphetamine tablets and 6.8 grams of crystal meth.

Police said the lesbian couple confessed to dealing drugs to local youths. They said they met in prison after previous arrests for drugs and, after they were released, moved in together and returned to their life of crime, aided by a big-time drug supplier in Chonburi they also met in prison.

The two women owned a pair of monkeys – a male baby and its mother Heng Heng – and had them perform tricks for the public. The show is over for the simians, who will be turned out into the wild when their owners go to jail again.
