Another Pattaya bank sparked a rush on bills when they made available limited-edition banknotes commemorating His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
People began queuing outside Siam Commercial Bank’s Thepprasit Road branch early Nov. 9 to exchange their money for “60th Birthday Anniversary” series notes carrying the denomination of 60 baht. The commemorative banknote was issued in 1987 to honour HM the King on his 60th birthday.
The branch had only 70 of the old bills, but also made available older 100-baht notes with HM the King on the back as well as the front.
The supply was exhausted within 20 minutes.
The release was special as SCB charged only the face value for the notes, rather than prices three or four times higher currently being charged by collectors.
