Over 2.4 mn new vehicles registered during 10 months of 2016

The Department of Land Transport disclosed that 2.4 new million cars were registered during the first ten months of 2016, while the number of newly-registered passenger vehicles has decreased.

Land Transport Department Director General Sanit Phromwong disclosed that during January to October, a total of 2,456,686 vehicles, or an average of 240,000 vehicles per month, were registered with the Land Transport Department and provincial offices of land transport nationwide. The number an increase from the same period last year by 100,949 or 4.28 percent.

The number of registered motorcycles is 1,620,901, while during the same period 490,124 cars and 212,281 pickup trucks were also registered.

A total of 64,056 trucks and buses were registered, marking a decrease from the same period last year by 8512 or 11.72 percent.

Director General of the Department of Transport reiterated that new car registration processes are fast and convenient, as a license plate can be obtained within one day once all required documents are submitted.
