Sattahip Mayor Narong Bunbancherdsri presided over the Sept. 6 event participated in by Water Resources Regional Office 6, Sattahip Sub-district, the Chonburi Natural Resources and Environment Department, Provincial Waterworks Authority, Eastern Water Resource Management and Development PLC and the Naval Recruit Training Center.

Together the volunteers collected garbage, worked machinery to dredge the bottom and generally rehabilitate the canal.

Phuwadit Panamaneechot, assistant director of the Secretariat of the East Coast Water Commission, said Sept. 20 was designated National River Conservation Day in commemoration of HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s 72-kilometer barge ride down the Saen Saep Canal from Bangkok to Chachoengsao in 1994.
