Two Sattahip police officers rescued an elderly woman suffering from dementia after she fell inside her locked bathroom.

Rin Saelim, 77, was found lying face down, with bruises to her body and a swollen face after apparently falling. The woman had barricaded herself inside the bathroom, fearing burglars were going to invade her Popchoke Village house.

Neighbor Piyanan Primon, 40, said she had been looking after “Granny Rin” for some time. The woman exhibited signs of Alzheimer’s, confusing Piyanan for her daughter and fearing burglars. She stayed alone in her locked up house.

Police and neighbors try to break into “Granny Rin’s” house to give her medical treatment after her fall.

But on Sept. 11, Piyanan said she heard the woman moaning in pain and calling for her daughter. But she was unable to get inside the house, so she called police.

Pol. Sr. Sgt. Maj. Thanatorn Wongphukeow and Lance Cpl. Narongdej Jaitieng responded, climbing a fence and breaking locks to the house and bathroom to rescue the woman.

She was taken for treatment at Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center.
