Road closures announced for Pattaya Marathon

Pattaya will see many of its roads closed throughout the morning of Sept. 3 to allow for Pattaya Marathon.

Deputy Mayor Bandit Kunnajukr announced closures along the route about 8,000 runners will take at an Aug. 25 planning meeting.

The marathon will run from 3:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. with the start and finish line on Beach Road near Central Road.

The following will be closed to traffic and parking:

  1. Pattaya Beach Road from the Dolphin Roundabout to Wat Chaimongkol Intersection from 2am – 11:30am.
  2. Walking Street from the entrance to Bali Hai Bridge from 19:00 (the day prior) – 11:30am.
  3. Pattaya Center Road from Top’s Supermarket to Beach Road from 00:01 – 11:30.
  4. Bali Hai Pier from the bridge to the pier from 00:01 – 11:30.
  5. Second Road from Center Road to the Dolphin Roundabout – from 02:00-08:00.
  6. Thappraya Road the right lane (one lane) along the traffic island from 02:00 – 08:00am.
  7. Jomtien Second Road one lane (the right lane) from 01:00 – 11:30.
  8. Soi 17 from Third Road – Regional Land Junction (Sophon market at the corner), throughout Soi 17 (the route that runs behind Tuk Com) to Bali Hai – from 00:01 – 11:30.
  9. Jomtien Beach Road from the Hanuman Statue to the Lumpini Condo – from 00:01 – 11:30.
  10. Sukhumvit Road left lane (one lane) from the entrance of Khao Talo all the way to the entrance of Khao Chi Chan (Nong Japtao junction) and back. 00:01 – 11:30.

As usual, registration for the race is dual-priced for Thais and foreigners.

Thais will pay 800 baht for the full 42.2-kilometer marathon, 600 baht for the half-marathon and 400 baht for a 10.6-kilometer mini-marathon.

Foreign registration is priced in U.S. dollars, at $60 (about 1,995 baht) for the full marathon, $50 (1,660 baht) for the half-marathon and $30 (999 baht) for the mini-marathon.

There also will be a free 3.7-kilometer “fun run” and wheelchair race. Wheelchair racers must register with the Redemptorist Vocational School for Persons with Disabilities at 038-716-627 ext. 6314.
