PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai has warned that unauthorized excavation of public footpaths will not be tolerated after photos showed a restaurant on Beach Road digging up the pavement to connect its wastewater pipe to the city’s drainage system.
Manot shared the photos on social media, highlighting the problem of repeated road and footpath excavations that leave public areas disrupted. He said such work could not be carried out without permission and called for legal action against those responsible.
The restaurant’s excavation involved digging into the public footpath to install a wastewater connection to the municipal system. Authorities said the unauthorized work was prohibited and the operator would face a fine, along with charges for reinstating the damaged footpath.
The case highlights a recurring problem in Pattaya, where unauthorised utility connections and repeated excavation can damage public infrastructure, inconvenience pedestrians and leave footpaths in poor condition.
Pattaya authorities are expected to pursue the matter under the relevant regulations, with the deputy mayor making clear that those responsible must bear the consequences and the cost of restoring the public area.
