PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of southern Thailand, while the northern and central regions experience cooler temperatures and strong winds.
The heavy rain in the south is caused by a monsoon trough passing through central southern provinces combined with the northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand and southern areas. Residents in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, and Pattani are advised to remain cautious of thunderstorms, flash floods, and waterlogged roads. Mariners should also take care as waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand can reach 1 meter, and over 2 meters in areas affected by thunderstorms.
In the northern and northeastern regions, cooler morning temperatures and breezy conditions are expected due to a moderate high-pressure system from China. Residents are advised to take precautions against the chill and changing weather conditions.
For tourists visiting Pattaya and other eastern coastal destinations, the city will remain largely dry, but winds may be stronger than usual. Visitors are advised to plan outdoor activities accordingly and stay updated on local weather forecasts, especially when venturing to beaches or nearby islands.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Fengshen over the northern South China Sea is expected to make landfall in central Vietnam on Thursday (Oct 23) and weaken rapidly, posing no direct threat to Thailand.
