PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya Tourist Police are being trained to use Taser guns in high-risk situations involving tourists and members of the public, with authorities stressing the importance of proper and safe use of the equipment. The training was held at the Shambhala Hotel Pattaya in Chonburi on Sept. 8 as part of the 18th Taser gun training program organized by the Tourist Police Bureau.
Tourist Police Bureau Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Saksira Pheuk-am has ordered the development of officers’ operational capabilities so they are better prepared to respond to situations involving tourists and use government-issued equipment correctly. A total of 56 officers from Tourist Police Station 4, Division 2, Tourist Police Division 1, together with investigation officers from Division 2, took part in the training.
Acting Pol. Col. Tolap Tinamat, an inspector from the Tourist Police Bureau’s Administrative Division 1, served as an instructor, providing practical training on the use of Taser guns. The devices are intended to help officers control potentially dangerous situations where there is a risk to officers, tourists or members of the public. Training focused on using the equipment correctly and safely while following established operational procedures.
Officials said regular practice was essential to ensure officers remained prepared to respond effectively when confronted with high-risk incidents. The training is part of wider efforts to ensure Tourist Police officers are ready to assist tourists and members of the public and can respond appropriately when situations escalate. Authorities said the aim is to have officers prepared to learn, prepared to act and prepared to protect tourists at all times.
