PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya was living up to its tropical reputation on Monday, with hot, humid conditions sending many residents looking skyward for the rain that could finally bring some relief. Despite weather warnings calling for increased rainfall across Thailand, the skies over Pattaya offered plenty of sunshine, leaving beaches busy with visitors making the most of the dry spells.

For tourists and foreign visitors, the sunshine was a welcome sight. Beachgoers could be seen enjoying the sand and sea, while others took advantage of the bright weather to walk along the beachfront, swim and relax outdoors. For many Thais, however, the reaction was rather different.

After days of hot and humid conditions, residents were looking forward to a proper downpour to cool the city. The combination of strong sunshine and high humidity can make the temperature feel considerably hotter, leaving many hoping that the approaching rain will finally provide some relief. The Thai Meteorological Department has warned that rainfall will increase from September 8 to 13, with widespread heavy rain and isolated very heavy falls expected in parts of the country. The East, which includes Chonburi, is among the areas expected to see more unsettled conditions.

In Pattaya, the forecast calls for a mix of sunshine, clouds and thunderstorms over the coming days, followed by wetter conditions later in the week. For beach businesses, however, the familiar Pattaya dilemma remains: tourists want sunshine, while many locals are simply waiting for the rain. For now, the sun is winning.
