PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya City officials have intensified efforts to reclaim public beach space, seizing hundreds of illegally rented beach chairs and mats during a late-night enforcement operation along Pattaya Beach. The latest crackdown marks a tougher approach after years of repeated warnings and enforcement efforts. Despite numerous previous confiscations and reminders that public beach rentals are prohibited, many operators have continued returning to the beachfront, prompting the city to adopt a stricter policy of daily inspections and seizures.
At around 12:30 a.m. on July 21, officers from Pattaya City’s Special Operations Unit and municipal enforcement team carried out inspections from North Pattaya Beach to South Pattaya Beach as part of the city’s campaign to keep public beaches free from unauthorized commercial activity.
During the operation, officials found several operators attempting to avoid enforcement by hiding beach chairs and mats beneath tarpaulins, loading them onto motorcycle sidecars parked along nearby roads, or storing them in pickup trucks until customers arrived. Authorities confiscated more than 200 beach chairs along with numerous rental mats, which were taken into municipal custody. Owners may reclaim the items in accordance with official procedures.
City officials said they have repeatedly warned operators that renting out beach chairs and mats on public beaches is prohibited. Businesses wishing to provide such services must operate on legally authorized private property, with customers responsible for transporting the equipment themselves.
Pattaya City said inspections will continue on a daily basis, warning that any illegally rented beach furniture found on public beaches will be confiscated. Officials said the campaign aims to preserve public access, improve beach orderliness, and ensure the coastline remains available for everyone to enjoy.
