PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya returned to a bright and sunny mood Thursday afternoon, July 23, after heavy early morning rainfall caused temporary flooding in several areas, giving residents and visitors a clear view of the city’s coastline once again. A photo of Pattaya Bay taken from a high-rise hotel and shared by a Pattaya Mail reader showed blue skies, calmer conditions, and the familiar seaside atmosphere returning after the morning downpour affected roads across parts of Banglamung district. The heavy rain, which fell for more than an hour before dawn, caused temporary flooding in several low-lying areas, including sections of roads that regularly experience drainage problems during intense rainfall. Water levels gradually receded after the rain stopped, allowing traffic and daily activities to return to normal.
However, weather officials continue to warn that Thailand remains in the middle of the southwest monsoon season, with periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and rough seas possible through October. The combination of monsoon winds and low-pressure systems can still bring sudden downpours, particularly during the afternoon and evening, even after periods of clear skies.
Residents, motorists, and visitors are advised to remain alert for changing weather conditions, while boat operators and sea travelers should take extra caution during thunderstorms and periods of stronger winds. For Pattaya, the morning storm was a reminder that the rainy season can quickly change the city’s weather, but sunshine often returns just hours later, keeping the seaside destination active throughout the monsoon months.
