PATTAYA, Thailand – City officials in Pattaya removed benches placed on a public footpath during a cleanup operation on June 23 as part of ongoing efforts to keep pedestrian walkways clear and accessible. The action comes amid continued concerns over the use of sidewalks for informal extensions of business space, including the placement of chairs, cones, and banners as warning markers or to reserve areas for customers.
Authorities said such practices can obstruct pedestrian movement and create safety risks, particularly in busy commercial zones. They emphasized that public walkways must remain free from any objects that restrict access or reduce usability. Officials added that enforcement will continue across the city as part of broader efforts to improve order in public spaces, while encouraging cooperation from local businesses and residents. The city reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe, clean, and accessible sidewalks for both residents and visitors through ongoing monitoring and enforcement.
