Pattaya manhole thieves captured in Bang Saray

Police busted a gang of thieves who stole heavy manhole covers to sell and buy drugs.

Nongprue police arrested a gang stealing manhole covers to sell for scrap to pay for drugs.

Eakarin Onphokaew, 37, Saksan Sangpho, 36, Anon Panitchwattana, 29, and Teeranan Sangngan, 35, were apprehended May 4 after they allegedly used a four-door pickup truck to swipe iron manhole lids from sois Wat Boonsamphan 12 and 14. Their truck and license plate were captured by CCTVs.

Police tracked them to a house in Bang Saray, where the suspects confessed they could sell the plates and grates for 12 baht a kilogram to raise money to buy drugs.

The suspects coughed up the name of the shop buying the stolen goods and its owner was taken in for questioning at the Najomtien Police Station.


Eakarin Onphokaew, Saksan Sangpho, Anon Panitchwattana, and Teeranan Sangngan, allegedly confessed, saying they sold the plates and grates for 12 baht a kilogram to raise money to buy drugs.


Police are looking into the buyer’s name, and will bring him in for questioning.
